Nicla Sense Env
Integrate air-quality monitoring into your Portenta or MKR projects, with ultra-low power sensors for both indoor and outdoor environments.
Overview
Expand your Portenta or MKR projects with Nicla Sense Env, and start sensing the world around you. Add a single module to combine three state-of-the-art sensors from Renesas® with the simplicity of integration and scalability of the Arduino ecosystem: an ultra-low power temperature and humidity sensor, and two smart and industrial-grade gas sensors, to evaluate air quality both in indoor and outdoor environments. Thanks to its tiny size (the Nicla family’s signature 22.86 x 22.86 mm) and robust design, Nicla Sense Env is ideal for projects that need to combine sensor fusion with the high computational power of the Portenta family or versatility of a MKR solution.
Like the entire Arduino Nicla family, Nicla Sense Env is modular, smart, easy to use, cost-effective, versatile, and accessible.
Key benefits include:
- Advanced Sensing: Incorporates HS4001 for precise humidity and temperature measurements, and ZMOD4410AI1V and ZMOD4510AI1V for AI-enabled detection of TVOCs, NO2, O3, and other gasses.
- Compact Design: Small form factor (22.86 x 22.86 mm) allows for easy integration into various projects.
- Ultra-Low Power Consumption: Designed for 24/7 operation with minimal power usage.
- Robust and Reliable: Features industrial-grade Renesas sensors, ensuring durability and accuracy.
- Seamless Integration: Connects easily to Portenta boards via ESLOV (I2C) or header pins, supporting Arduino IDE and MicroPython for quick programming.
- Ready to Use: Out-of-the-box compatibility with a variety of libraries and tutorials available through the Arduino ecosystem.
Applications:
- Climate Control Systems: Integrate into HVAC systems to monitor and regulate air quality, humidity, and temperature.
- Automated Air Purifiers: Enhance air purification systems with real-time air quality data for energy-efficient and health-conscious operation.
- Fumes and Fire Detection: Detect dangerous fumes and fire smoke for early warning and safety intervention in various environments.
- Industrial Automation: Implement in heat pump machines and industrial processes for precise monitoring of air quality and detection of toxic substances.
- Prototyping: Ideal for developers using Portenta and MKR boards, providing a ready-to-use solution for environmental monitoring prototypes.

We launched the powerful Portenta H7 last year. The more targeted Portenta H7 Lite just a few weeks ago. And we’re back (already!), with another new product that fills the gap between the previous two versions. It’s known as Portenta H7 Lite Connected, but we like to call it “the best of both worlds." The Portenta H7 Lite Connected is powerful, with integrated wireless connectivity, yet remains cost-optimized. You could think of it as the H7 with only one secure element and no high-resolution video interface. Or if you prefer, the H7 Lite with the ability to connect. Adding this third iteration to the Portenta family and Arduino Pro ecosystem is our way of saying we want to be at our your side. No matter what smart project you are working on. You can always count on Arduino’s reliability, versatility, and ease of implementation; picking the product that best suits your needs. Portenta H7 Lite (left), H7 (center) and H7 Lite Connected (right) Here's where the Portenta H7 Lite Connected fits into the Arduino ecosystem. If you need excellent computational power to deploy AI on the edge. You're building a solution that will interact with other robotics systems, and therefore does not require a high-resolution video interface.Prototyping an idea that you know will need to connect to WiFi but is still not at the stage where you want to invest in a fully-fledged Portenta H7. Get the exact features you need with three options to choose from in the Portenta H7 family. And remember, the 80-pin high-density connectors at the bottom of every Portenta mean you can simply upgrade to a different version at any time. The Portenta H7 Lite Connected is available for €82/US$98.40. More information and complete technical specs can be found here.
